William Brighenti: "10 Ways to Know You Were Born to Be an Accountant," or 10 Reasons Not to Accept Blurbs as Gospel
On the website, "Best Colleges Online.Net," an anonymous author named "admin" posted an article on August 8, 2010 entitled, "10 Ways to Know You Were Born to Be an Accountant." Apparently an accountant did not write that article. Probably some liberal arts major — or, even more likely, some marketing major — wrote that piece, since it reads like a blurb, if anything. Or perhaps some comedy writer on the David Letterman show wrote this originally for the "Top 10" feature of the show, before being axed.

It wasn't until I truly got involved with IMA, however, that I really experienced all that it has to offer and realized that I could help make a difference. Having served on the IMA Young Professionals advisory committee and now IMA's Global Board of Directors, I've truly reaped the rewards of being involved with a professional association.

Alan Portnoy: Even Guidestar has its limits
Guidestar.org is a great tool. The website provides useful information about 501(c)(3) charities and private foundations to anyone who registers. In many cases, the general information and tax returns of other 501(c) organizations are available.

Eva Rosenberg: Preparer Licensing is Unpopular?
When unlicensed preparers step forward, upset about the new licensing requirements, I am not surprised. Taking tests can be really scary. Especially if you haven't taken an exam in 20 or 30 years.
