Each May I feel a certain nostalgia for students who are finishing their studies and getting ready to sit for all or part of the CPA exam. It was many Mays ago that I sat for the CPA exam. At that time, we took the entire exam at once and, as I recall, the national pass rate was an abysmal 12 percent for students passing the entire exam in one sitting. I was one of the lucky few who passed on the first try, but I am constantly grateful that I don’t have to take that test again and again to maintain my license. As we take our cyber-hats off to all of those who are about to begin the exam process, as well as to those who still have some sections to pass, we’re pulling a few interesting CPA exam articles out of the archives and also offering some encouraging information about the job prospects for spring accounting grads.
And for those of you still hitting the books, there is still time to apply for this year’s AccountingWEB scholarship. The deadline is May 15. Three students will win $500 each that they can apply toward their accounting education. Good luck to you all.
Best wishes,
Gail Perry, CPA
