In tax news this month, a disgruntled tax accountant threatened to kill the prosecutor who helped send him to jail, the Department of Justice is forging ahead with its attempts to gain access to the vital statistics of U.S. citizens with Swiss bank accounts, and the IRS doesn't think it needs to go out of its way to provide assistance to elderly taxpayers who might not understand the rules about tax withholding.

Filing errors spur TIGTA to recommend changes to Form 1040
The Internal Revenue Service could reduce the number of errors
made by individual taxpayers by clarifying instructions on and
improving the layout of Form 1040, concludes a new report
publicly released by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax
Administration (TIGTA).

Accountant charged with threatening life of prosecutor
Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau said his office
takes the charges very seriously that an accountant convicted of
grand larceny 14 years ago and arraigned on similar charges in
April threatened to kill the prosecutor who handled both cases.
