In a previous post, I mentioned North Carolina's new law that provides statutory guidance on when and how North Carolina may require a group of corporations to file a combined return. The new law applies to tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2012. The new law does NOT apply to tax years beginning prior to January 1, 2012

Nothing says holidays like articles about shopping and information about how states are trying to get their piece of the action by encouraging the payment of sales tax on online purchases. States keep talking about a the billions of dollars they are losing by not being able to collect sales tax on online purchases. Meanwhile, use tax laws languish and consumers continue to bypass them, as do the states for the most part.
