Death and Taxes

My sister died two years ago with virtually no money. She was permanently disabled, troubled mentally, and heavily in debt. There was a few thousand dollars left when she died, which I used to pay funeral expenses, rent, etc that she owed. There was no will, so I volunteered as administrator. Now the IRS had written me that she withdrew money (about $12,000) from an IRA the year she died. They say I have to file a tax return for her. My question is: If any money is owed, am I somehow liable? This seems ridiculous! My thought was to write back to the IRS and just tell them what I wrote above... any thoughts?

Unfair Tariff! Need Your Help!

For the last nine years European mustards have been subject to a 100 percent tariff. Not only has this meant higher prices for our mustards from Dijon, from Ireland, from Germany, from Holland, etc., it has also resulted in fewer European mustards coming into the U.S. You can do something to help get rid of this terrible tax on imported mustards.

While employers do not need to avoid celebration altogether, preventive planning can go a long way toward avoiding holiday problems. more >>
